What Is OCT Retinal Eye Scan?

OCT stands for Optical Coherence Tomography and is technology that allows us to assess the individual layers of the retina and other parts of your.

On OCT scan is similar to an MRI scan or CAT scan for the eyes and can allow us to image your eyes and the hidden layers of your retina in 3D allowing us to see things in your eyes that could not be seen before.

What Happens When I Have An OCT Eye Scan?

OCT Scanning Equipment

Your examination is simple, painless and takes just a few seconds and does not normally involve drops or contact with your eyes, there are no sudden puffs of air or light flashes. Areas of the retina that need investigation can be lined up and reassessed so changes from the original scan can be analysed and measured.

What Can Be Seen Using A Zeiss OCT Retinal Eye Scan?

Your retina can be damaged by many common diseases like Glaucoma, Diabetes and Macular Degeneration. Damage to your retina can lead to serious loss of sight, visual impairment and even blindness.
