An advanced eye examination takes approximately 45 minutes and also includes the use of specialist eye scanning technology which surpasses anything found in many high street opticians. We are one of a handful of practices in the East Midlands that have invested in eye scanning technology that includes a Zeiss OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography) that allows us to see below the surface of your retina. Additionally, we also use Optomap technology that allows us to see over 80% of your retina compared to just 20% using ordinary retinal photography.
When booking your appointment, ask about our Advanced and Extended eye examinations as well as our Vision Club scheme.
What is OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography)?
Our Zeiss OCT (Ocular Coherence Tomography) uses sub-retinal imaging to allow us to see all 10 individual cellular layers of your retina. Comparable to having an ultrasound or MRI scan of your eyes; it’s non-invasive, comfortable and quick. This technology allows us to look beneath your retina and analyse the deeper layers of your eyes in 3D. With this advanced technology, we are able to detect sight threatening changes to your eyes such as Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Glaucoma up to 5 years earlier than a standard eye test.

What is Optomap?
Our Optomap wide view retinal imaging system presents us with a view of your retina which is four times wider than seen in a standard eye examination. Especially useful for short sightedness, we are able to see the far periphery of the retina and record and compare these images for future changes. This technology is particularly useful in the early detection of retinal tears, retinal detachments and earlier diagnosis of tumours that can be found in the eyes.
Combined Scans for the clearest results
When these scans are combined together, we get a truly dynamic and comprehensive view of your eyes. These quick, non-invasive, hospital grade eye scans are available to patients of any age and normally do not need the use of eye drops. They will allow us to review parts of your eyes that were previously unseen during your eye exam.
